* 190 degrees for two seconds - This method is referred to as "high-heat pasteurization" and causes great damage and a great deal of denaturing to the whey proteins.
* Cold pasteurized - This process involves irradiating which reduces many of the health benefits of whey protein. The product is not exposed to high heat, but it is exposed to ultraviolet rays.

Raw whey protein contains a high amount of cysteine which is one of the most important amino acids for detoxifying the body. Every amino acid is important. However, those that contain sulfur, such as cysteine, are able to bind to toxins and transport the toxins to the liver. The liver can then further detoxify and push the toxins out of the body. When raw whey protein is exposed to high heat during pasteurization, cysteine is depleted and cannot be used to help detoxify the body. This may be one of the most important reasons why raw whey protein is more beneficial for the body than pasteurized whey protein.
